Dr. William Barter 

Pastor William "Bill" Barter is a native of Bath, Maine, and grew up in Bath and Portland. Bill lives in Brunswick with his spouse, Roy Taylor, a fellow empty-nester. He holds a BA in English from USM, a Master of Divinity degree from The Catholic University of America, and a Ph.D. in Professional Psychology from Walden University in Minneapolis. He completed two academic years in residence at Indiana University.

 

Pastor Bill was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in May 1982. In 1991, he left the Roman Catholic Church and became rostered as a Lutheran pastor by the ELCA. Over his career, Bill served as a chaplain at Bates College and as a regional youth minister. He has served as a pastor in four Maine churches and in one Chicago church.  For 12 years, he served as an Associate to the Bishop for the New England Synod. Although he has officially retired, he has remained active in the church's ministerial life.

 

When not fulfilling pastoral duties, he works as a contract psychologist for the Maine State Forensic Service. He is pleased to be serving the wonderful people of Trinity Lutheran Church in South Paris.
