OUR HISTORY
Trinity Lutheran Church was founded on January 7, 1912, as the Evangelical Lutheran Church with a Finnish connection. Although it was independent of synodical affiliation, it was the first clearly Lutheran church to be established in the Oxford Hills area. In 1913, an application was submitted to the Synod for acceptance. That same year, the first Sunday church school was also formed. The church was officially accepted into the synod in 1915.
In 1917, a building site at the foot of King Hill was purchased for $25.00. At the same time, a building fund of $559.00 was collected. That year, a delegate was sent to a synodical convention for the first time. Construction on the church began in 1918 and was completed in 1919. The dedication took place on August 17, 1919.
In April 1924, the congregation was incorporated as a legal entity in the state of Maine. In 1988, it became part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The church was relocated from its original site on King Hill to Brook Street in South Paris on the Buckfield Road in 1950.
Today, Trinity Lutheran Church remains a warm, friendly, and welcoming ELCA Lutheran church, spreading the word of God and fostering peace, inclusion, and grace, with a history spanning over 100 years.
